About Club 50

What is Club 50

Club 50 Nepal is a not-for-profit, non-sectarian and humane organization founded in 2006, recognized by the Nepal government and registered as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). It is an assembly or congregation of friends aged around early or late 50s having compassion and greater interests in life. The club was conceptualized with the principal objective of bringing together likeminded people in a lively atmosphere and to make the most usage of our time by doing some gainful work for the underprivileged in our society. It is indeed a platform to share views, ideas and experiences to serve the people. Initially started by a group of 14 friends in May 2006, Club-50 currently has more than 60 active and dedicated members and is growing every year. It is a networking opportunity, a place to make friends and strengthen old bonds as well as sharing good things in life.

Philosophy of Club-50

Generally, people in the fifties are in the Doldrums of their lives as they neither take part in youngsters’ activities nor are ready for retirement. This is a very crucial period in the lives of this age group as they still have a whole life to live ahead with so many creative ideas in their heads and lots of unfulfilled dreams in their minds. This age group has a strong urge to use their spare time for fruitful activities for the good of the society in general and for less privileged people in particular. This Club provides the platform for this group to get together for exchange of views, ideas, intellectual introspections, discussions, fun oriented activities and short travels. All this is done in an easy, relaxed & fun-filled  atmosphere. The members meet on the last Friday of English calendar month in a beautiful venue of choice, organised by a member taking turns, normally at a nice restaurant or a  hotel.

Brief history of club -50

The Club was established on 26th May 2006 with 19 active, energetic & fully committed close friends. We friends used to meet frequently for casual talk and to pass time in KP Maskey’s office. There used to be many creative and progressive discussions but never an idea of how to make them happen. We decided to make these creative ideas a goal rather than empty talk. That was the beginning of giving birth to Club -50.We decided to hold a meeting once every month for exchanging views, ideas and small creative helpful activities for needy people and find the best way to do them. The first get-together was organized in the evening at Nirvana Garden Hotel in Kathmandu. It started with distribution of agenda and one by one we talked, discussed and looked into it through different eyes so that small, small ideas with great depth could happen with little effort. The official meeting was followed by drinks and dinner which too was a highlight of the program. Each member paid for their own dinner and that has become the practice. After the first get-together we chose “Club 50″ as the best name for the club considering our age group, interests and  because it met all the categories of our ideas.

KP Maskey was nominated President along with 3 other  members in executive portfolio. After the completion of his 2-year term Bhupendra Karky, Ramesh Luintel and Sharada Bhakta Ranjit were respectively presidents of the club for the periods 2007/2008, 2009/2010, 2011/2012. Many creative social works, health camps, recreation tours were organised during this period. Club membership has since grown to exceeded 50 presently.  Uttam Kumar Maskey is at the end of his 2-year term presently.

Why donate to earthquake survivors through Club 50 Nepal?

The recent 7.8 magnitude earthquake on 25th of April and 12th May 2015 shook us all. We are safe but there are thousands of survivors struggling for basic needs. More than eight thousand have lost their lives and the number continues to rise. Thousands more are missing, injured or homeless. A vast majority of people living in villages around Kathmandu valley are homeless living under flimsy tarpaulins and tents.
In this tragic situation, we the members of Club 50 are looking  to raise a fund for earthquake survivors and start relief operations. We appeal all of you to help our fundraising by donating funds in our bank account. All  transactions regarding donations received and distributed will be made available transparently. Please Donate now. Spread the word and help rebuild Nepal. Our volunteers are self motivated and locally led individuals willing to help earthquake survivors without expecting anything in return. Individual donations collected from within our membership has proved insufficient to build the 100+ shelters needed in the targeted village in Kavre district.  We aim to help build shelters that are earthquake resistant, rain-proof, and that will last till the government of Nepal rebuilds permanent homes in the future. Our concept is to rebuild damp-proof dwellings that will not only protect villagers from the fast approaching monsoon rains but also through the bitter cold of the winter season. While this may seem like an ambitious and expensive undertaking we plan to reuse locally available building materials like wood, bamboo, stones etc.We also aim to harness the vast labor pool of the villagers itself by organising them into groups of 15-20 persons, tasked to carry out specific activities of the rebuilding process.  Club50 Nepal will supply the corrugated sheets and other hardware for roofing and will ascertain the quality of masonry and structural work as advised by engineers..
